best blogging laptops

Are you on the hunt for the best laptop for blogging? Look no further! I created this article as a round-up of some of the best laptops for bloggers with key blogging components in mind.

Having a suitable laptop is so important for blogging considering all of the work is done from a computer. So having one that works well should be a top priority! While just about any laptop will do for blogging, it’s best to think of this purchase as an investment.

I get it… if you’re just starting a blog, you’re probably cautious about spending a lot of money, but it’s worth purchasing something that will last you for years to come, and will repay itself down the road.

While there are heaps of desktops out there, it’s my true belief that a laptop is the most practical option for blogging. They can go anywhere with you, allowing you to blog on the go, and they’re oftentimes more budget-friendly than some of the real fancy monitors that stay in one place forever.

The laptops on this list were chosen because of how portable, powerful, and versatile they are.

In this article, I also walk you through a few things to consider when buying a laptop for blogging, explaining them in a way that is easy to understand – even if you’re not a techy person!

5 Things to Consider When Buying a Laptop for Blogging

When buying a laptop for blogging, there are a few things to consider to make sure that you get a laptop best suited to your needs.

Size & Weight

One of the most important considerations to keep in mind when buying a laptop for blogging is how portable the device is. Ultimately, bloggers really benefit from having potability with their laptops, allowing them to work on the go from anywhere in the world!

When it comes to portability, you want to keep two things in mind: size and weight.

Size is important because the last thing you want is to be lugging around a big, bulky laptop that doesn’t fit comfortably in any of your bags. Luckily, there are so many laptops on the market today that are slim, compact, and can slip into any bag with ease.

You also want to think about weight here because if you’re going to be carrying your laptop around, you don’t want to choose anything too heavy. While you may be thinking “well, I’m always going to be working at home, it’s not like I’m a travel blogger”, this may not always be the case!

What about the days when you’re going stir crazy at home and want to work from the coffee shop down the street? What about the times you go to collaborate with fellow bloggers? This makes having a light, compact, and highly portable laptop so completely worth it because all you have to do is throw it in your bag and go!

For travel bloggers, portability is super important if you plan to work on the go. Choosing a laptop whose weight you’re happy to carry when you travel is crucial. If you tend to move around and like to blog on the go, keep on reading to find out what our top recommendation is!

Battery Life

It’s also of the utmost important to choose a laptop for blogging with a long-lasting battery life. Yes, the computer will come with a charger, but no, you don’t always want to have to be connected to the wall when you feel like getting some work done.

Having a long battery life on your blogging laptop is a true godsend because it allows you to work for hours on end without interruption. You can write and publish posts, sort and edit photos, watch video clips, and be on social media all without the impending doom of your computer dying.

A long battery life goes an exceptionally long way because you can get more done with way less hassle. Think about long layovers in airports when all the outlets are being hogged and you just want to finish your blog post.

If your laptop has a strong battery life, you can spend less time trying to find somewhere to plug it and more time writing. This rings true for working at coffee shops, blogging from bed, editing photos on a train, catching up on posts in between appointments and beyond…

A long battery life will come in handy more than you can imagine.

Blogging can be a complete balancing act, and having a laptop with a long battery life can help make the juggling a little bit easier.

Storage

Every blogger’s worst fear is running out of storage space.

If you’re anything like me, when the dreaded “storage nearly full” warning pops up on my devices, I can’t help but panic. But if you choose a blogging laptop with plenty of storage space, this isn’t something you’ll have to worry about.

Blogging can take up a lot of room on a computer… Seriously, a lot.

Between the drafts of articles, endless images, logos, banners, screenshots, video clips and more, running out of storage space is inevitable if you aren’t prepared.

But if you choose a laptop with plenty of storage space in the first place, you won’t have to worry about depleting it on your blogging journey.

While lots of people will argue the benefits of cloud storage outweigh the benefits of computer storage, I strongly disagree. I like having all of my documents, images, videos and conversations right on my laptop. I don’t want to have to rely on an internet connection to pull what I need off the cloud.

Plus, if you want to use your laptop for more than just blogging, proper storage will also allow you to keep personal files like music, movies, or TV shows on your computer that may normally take up too much room.

Storage is also crucial if you plan on editing videos or creating vlogs. You’ll need a computer that has enough memory space to keep your clips and final products comfortably!

Ample storage space grants you the ultimate convenience of having everything you need right at your fingertips, at all times.

Performance

When it comes to a blogging laptop, you want to be sure to choose something that will perform well. While you don’t need anything super fancy, you should still get something that does well in the performance department to ensure that the laptop will suit your blogging needs.

When it comes to performance, don’t stress too much, but definitely make sure to get a laptop with a strong processor, fast CPU and high RAM. As long as those elements are covered, you’ll see that the type of laptop you get doesn’t really matter too much.

Strong Processor

This is key for performance because it ensures that you’ll be able to run multiple programs or software and do whatever you need to on your laptop without it dying out on you.

Fast CPU (Central Processing Unit )

The CPU is essentially your laptops mainframe. The faster the CPU, the better the laptop’s performance.

If the CPU is fast, it means you’ll be able to complete your tasks with minimal effort, whether you’re writing on WordPress, editing photos, or videos. With a fast CPU, you’ll be able to do all of these things seamlessly.

RAM (Random Access Memory)

Finally, making sure that your laptop has enough RAM is crucial for the performance of a laptop as this ensures that your computer will have enough space to store working data from whatever you’re doing.

Price

It should come as no surprise that laptops can be prettttty pricey. They range from less than $500 to more than $2,000, all boasting a host of features and components that justify the high price tag.

But similar to most areas of life, when it comes to laptops, you get what you pay for. If you drop a few hundred dollars on an inexpensive laptop, you may be underwhelmed by the functionality and resilience of the system.

However, if you treat a blogging laptop as an investment and are willing to spend a little more, you’ll see the capabilities of the computer explode. More expensive laptops generally come with more powerful processors, increased storage space, impressive displays and other top notch elements that make the outlandish cost worthwhile.

At the end of the day, have a hard think about what you want this laptop for. If you already have a computer for personal use, you may be happy to settle with a cheap model that you can tote around and blog with on the go.

But if you’re looking for a laptop that will double as blogging and personal (or if you just want a kickass blogging laptop), spending more will probably pay off down the line.

And remember – in most cases, you gotta spend money to make money, so think of buying a blogging laptop as a business investment.

Unlike most businesses which need a lot of capital to get started, blogging is one of the most low cost businesses out there. Although a laptop is a pretty large investment, it’s one of the only ones you’ll have to make to get your blog up and running. And since it will allow you to earn some money, it’s totally worth it!

7 Best Laptops for Blogging

And now for the moment you’ve been waiting for… The best laptops for blogging!

Macbook Air 13″

Best For: Working on the go
Specs: 8th generation Core i5 | 8GB RAM | 13.3” Retina display | 2.75lbs |12-hour battery life

Staying true to myself, I had to kick off this list of best laptops for blogging with an Apple product.

Our team loves Macs and we all use them for everything blogging. In fact, if you head to coworking spaces across the world, or drop into cafes where bloggers are working, it’s more than likely the majority of them will be sporting Mac laptops.

While there are plenty of Mac computers to choose from, the Macbook Air 13” is a super quality pick for a blogging laptop as it covers all the bases in terms of functionality while being extremely small and lightweight.

The newest model, released in 2019, comes with a completely revamped system that creates a futuristic design and high quality product.

Dell Inspiron 15

Best For: Beginner bloggers, basic blogging tasks
Specs: 10th generation Core i3 processor | 8GB RAM | 15.6” touchscreen display | 4.95 lbs | 7-hour battery life

It wouldn’t be a true laptop list without Dell making the cut somewhere, so here is the computer brand powerhouse with the Inspiron 15 3000, an all-around great laptop for blogging and beyond.

The Dell Inspiron 15 features a Intel Core i3 processor to create a highly responsive and functional performance. With a 8GB system memory and a solid hard drive, multitasking is a breeze on this laptop, with everything running quickly and smoothly from video to images to writing.

Plus, with so much storage space, you’ll be hard pressed to use it all up!

Macbook Pro 16″

Best For: Video editing
Specs: 9th generation Core i9 processor | 64GB RAM | 16” Retina display | 4.3 lbs |11-hour battery life

Ending the way we began, the last blogging laptop I have to recommend is the Macbook Pro 16. This 16-inch laptop is exceptionally powerful and stockpiled with fun features galore.

Starting off with the basics, the latest Macbook Pro 16 model from 2019 comes with a 2.3GHz 8-core ninth-generation Intel Core i9 processor with between 16 and 64GB of memory and 1 to 8 TB of SSD storage.

The laptop features a 16-inch retina display with True Tone color detection, a Magic keyboard, and Thunderbolt ports.

Something that I love (but some people hate) about the new Macbook Pro is the Touch Bar that is fully customizable and includes things like volume, brightness, Siri and display options.

The coolest part about this Touch Bar is that it changes with each application. If you’re writing, the Touch Bar displays word suggestions; if you’re editing images, it displays editing options, and so on and so forth.

This laptop is outfitted with banging speakers, a gigantic trackpad, and the latest macOS. It’s built to handle anything from simple tasks to advanced software, and when coupled with the 11-hour battery life, it can’t be beaten.

Yes, it’s exceptionally expensive but in my opinion, the Macbook Pro is worth every penny! This is the blogging laptop that I personally use and although it was pricey, I know that it will last me a long time.

Pros:

  • Fantastic battery life
  • Huge amount of memory and storage
  • Customizable Touchbar

Cons:

  • Pricey
  • Only USB-C ports

I’m sure it’s not surprising what a huge range of laptops you can get, but this just goes to show that there isn’t a single best laptop for blogging.

Rather, it depends on your personal needs, specifications and preferences.

That being said, no matter what you choose, remember that the best blogging laptop will last you for years to come, allowing you to start, grow and expand your blogging business on the same computer.
